Short Bio
Alessandro Bortolozzo, born in April 16th, 1995, is a young student of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma. He ended his classic studies at the G.V. Catullo high school near Rome in 2014 and started to attend the lessons at the Accademia to build up his personal artistic image, to focus on new and more professional creative techniques and ways of expression. His main themes are the relationship between the inner self and the outside, the nostalgic tension to the past, the recollection of particular memories and the fear in the flowing of the present into the future. Recollections of the past makes the artist further (ulteriormente) investigate the causes of his personal characteristics in his present persona. What made the artist fear specific things? What are the things that made him be introspective and afraid to stay alone in the dark? Darkness is an important entity: it’s like a primordial environment from which come everyone’s basic and most important characteristics (nucleo (oscuro in quanto) profondo, il più profondo e meno influenzabile). It is from the inner darkness consolidated during life that comes the fear of something, inner images, thoughts and questions about life, monsters and ugly holes created by our unsolved experiences, questions and situations. Fear is strictly connected with monstrous images, with the dark side of humans, with the horrific images avoided and neglected during our outside and daily life, as much as the questions about our unsolved past. This is the point: face reality, (his) internal reality, and share (his) personal acknowledgement “written down” in the artwork (with the spectator). The artwork becomes a bridge, a tool used to make the spectator face, under pressure, his most feared and avoided questions.
